Course Overview

This course provides an opportunity for Web Designers to develop and administer a web server for multiple websites. Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to configure and run a web server.

As a graduate of this course you will be able to describe IP-based websites and DNS for websites. You will also be able to describe the differences between web server configuration on the intranet, the internet, or as a test server.

At the end of this course you will be able to describe web server security, site speed, and server performance. You will also be able to configure an Apache Web Servicer, describe how to speed up website access through server configurations, and how to configure an FTP server. You will be able to install and use XAMPP for local website testing and describe the advantages and disadvantages of local vs external vs cloud hosting of your website.

Prior to enrolling in this course, it is recommended that you complete CCTW300, Web Design Level III, or have equivalent practical knowledge.

  • Remote Live Delivery: Where: Online with instructor. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Instruction is delivered at set times online. Students do not come to campus.
  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
