Course Overview

Learn how to effectively mediate during conflict situations - improving the dialogue between the parties and ensuring the communication is balanced. You will be introduced to the structure and relationship of mediation relative to other alternative dispute resolution models. Also, you'll examine the role and importance of the moderator and how being impartial and ethical throughout the process is key to arriving at a successful resolution. Course topics include:
- the importance of communication skills
- the techniques to encourage conciliation and open dialogue
- the impact of bias and conflicts of interest
- the liabilities of a nonprofessional approach to alternative conflict resolution using integrity, competence and confidentiality
