NAIT's Bachelor of Technology degree is the only program of its kind in Alberta and one of just a few similar programs in Canada. If you've graduated with a recognized 2-year technology diploma, the BTech program offers the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree with 2 additional years of study.

The BTech degree has been developed to help you bridge the gap between the job you started as a technologist and a career in management. We've received industry demand for leading-edge technologists who have the technical theory, innovative skills, and ethical and social awareness required for sustainable industry. We have also been challenged to prepare critical-thinking practitioners who are able to address technological challenges in today's economy.

You'll build on your strong technical background, adding leadership and critical-thinking skills that you'll need to take on management and supervisory roles.

In addition to maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 through years 3 and 4, you will need to complete a capstone project to be presented at the annual BTech Capstone Showcase.

BTech program delivery

The BTech program is offered in a number of different ways which will determine classroom and study hours. We offer full-time and part-time options (students enrolled in three classes or more are considered full-time students).  As a BTech student, you may enrol in face-to-face or online courses.  Most face-to-face courses are held in the evening to provide students with an opportunity to network with colleagues in industry.

Once you start your first course, you will have 5 years to complete the full program. You are required to remain active in the program every academic year.

Flexible Course Options

Maintaining a work-life balance while studying on the side! This program has traditional classroom and eLearning options available if you'd like to work or care for your children during the day and learn in the evening.

  • Face-to-face courses are 15 weeks in length (8 weeks during spring term)
  • eLearning courses are 10 weeks long (effective fall 2022, eLearning courses will be 15-weeks long)
  • Capstone Project course is 30 weeks long (parts I & II combined)

We recommend that you take only one eLearning course per 10 week cycle, particularly if this is your first time taking eLearning and you are working full-time.

NAIT BTech grads are prepared

"The NAIT Bachelor of Technology program provides a great way to bridge a technologist diploma into a degree. One of my favourite parts was being able to practically apply the course lessons in my daily career, reinforcing the concepts. The NAIT BTech instructors are phenomenal; they provide great insight into industry and academia which even after graduating, I still lean on them for support."

Andy Karesa, Bachelor of Technology '16

"It is a robust, practical, relevant, applicable, and flexible fast-tracked degree. The BTech program was a stepping stone for me to get my Master of Architecture. I highly recommend it to anyone with a diploma either looking to advance in their career, or to just work smarter (more efficiently and wisely) at their current job. The faculty is evidently dedicated to finding excellent staff: instructors are often notable leaders in their respective fields and are wholly committed to facilitating student learning."
