Join us for this fun, high-energy fitness class!!The International & Intercultural Community Centre has partnered with NAIT Well-being to bring you a Bhangra Fit workshop. This fitness class is guaranteed to make you sweat while you have fun and learn some easy-to-follow steps to the most upbeat music! The movements are based on Bhangra dance that originated in Punjab, India.

"The Final Exam" - Short Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Tuesday, Nov. 15 I 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. I DOW Theatre
Set in 1998 Turkey, The Final Exam is a classroom drama based on actual events that was filmed, in part, in NAIT's A wing). Upholding new academic policy, a university professor tells a devout young Muslim woman to remove her headscarf in order to write a final exam. Seeing her distress, the young man beside her finds a "strategic" way to guard her privacy. The screening will be followed by a Q and A with a panel including the filmmakers, NAIT chaplains, and students with a particular interest in "bringing their whole selves to campus." Trailer:

Are you wondering what it’s like to participate in a study or work abroad program through NAIT? Ask a student who’s been there! Participants from the previous study and/or work abroad trips will be available for one-on-one conversations to tell you about their experiences and what they learned. They can answer many of your questions and help you decide if you’d like to pursue an experience of your own, and how to plan for an upcoming adventure. They’ll have pictures and many interesting stories to share!

Two NAIT instructors, Doug McFarlane from Alternative Energy Technology and Paul Campbell, Chair of the Cook program, will share their experiences and knowledge about starting up international experience programs for their students. This session will help others at NAIT set up successful international programs in other program areas. Doug and Paul will offer advice on establishing program learning outcomes, making the experience affordable and accessible to as many students as possible, identifying resources for health and safety and risk mitigation, and things to watch out for when planning student international excursions. This session is intended for NAIT staff only.

NAIT’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Lens document is designed to support instructors, staff members, and leaders as they integrate EDI into their work. It emphasizes that individual action and choices can positively impact inclusion and equitable practices within our departmental areas and broadly across our work culture. Join the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for an 80 minute session that will outline: the principles that guide using the Lens, how our own perspectives, diversities and assumptions impact how we work, and how to implement a tool to frame work approaches and decisions.

"A Portrait of Chinatown" - Film Screening Episode 2 Chinatown, how have you been?

Did you know that the first Chinatown in Edmonton stood where Canada Place is now? Local photographer and filmmaker, Jordon Hon, presents episode 2 of "唐人街的㸃滴 A Portrait of Chinatown'', a six-part docu-series about Jordon's personal journey of getting to know Edmonton's Chinatown. This episode includes interviews with community members and a presentation of the timeline of our Chinatowns that begins with two Chinese brothers settling here in 1890 up until the present day where we now have 2 distinct Chinatowns. The screening will be followed with an interview with Jordon and an audience Q&A.

International Education Opportunity: Learn International and Intercultural Skills and Work on a Solar Energy Project in Peru

NAIT now offers a class for students to learn international and intercultural skills, preparing them for success in an increasingly globalized world: ALTE2747 – Global Energy Issues and Intercultural Competency. The 3-credit class includes classroom/online learning during the regular winter semester (January to April) and ends with a clean energy installation project in a remote community in Peru in early May.
Any full-time student at NAIT (taking at least 9 credits) can apply to take the class. Come to this session to learn more!
