Course Overview
Gain confidence in saving lives with the essential skills of CPR and the automated external defibrillation for pediatric and adult patients. Feel empowered to recognize life-threatening emergencies and respond with Heart & Stroke's Intermediate First Aid by assessing the situation and providing recovery treatment until emergency medical services arrive.
Skills gained in this course will allow you to treat airway emergencies; cardiac arrest; bleeding lacerations; head and spine injuries; fractures; and bone, muscle, and joint stresses during realistic scenarios for one- and two-person providers.
Students will practice these skills on each other and using state of the art mannequins. If students have physical limitations that may affect participation within the course, please contact continuingeducation@nait.ca.
Effective March 31, 2023 the previously named Standard First Aid course was renamed to Intermediate First Aid as mandated by the Government of Alberta to comply with the naming conventions in the CSA Standard Z1210-17 (R2021).
