Course Overview

Refresh or establish your competence in licensed intraoral skills by developing your capabilities in infection prevention control and entry-to-practice skills. If you are looking to reinstate your certification, as requested by the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA), then this course is right for you. This course does not cover advanced practice skills.

With the skills you gain in this course, you will be able to put essential intraoral skills into practice, such as the application of dental dam, anticariogenic agents, pit and fissure sealants, desensitizing agents, topical anesthetic, matrices and wedges, bases, and liners. Additional outcomes will include knowledge in infection prevention control, obtaining radiographic images, preliminary impressions, suture removal, and coronal polishing.

To be eligible to attend the Clinical Refresher – Entry-to-Practice course, students must submit their CADA reinstatement letter.

Please note: There is an optional Moodle site available to you that will provide you with a theory refresh in all of the above-listed skills. The information in the Moodle site will enhance your knowledge and provide you with valuable tips to boost your hands-on skills.

Please be aware that this course is designed for dental assistants looking to re-enter practice and does not satisfy the educational requirements for students who are looking to re-write the NDAEB exam.
