Course Overview

Explore the craftsmanship of creating axes, hatchets, and tomahawks in this 18-hour blacksmithing course. Discover three distinct methods for forging each tool, utilizing both recycled and new materials to develop your skills in small-scale tool construction. This course emphasizes forge welding and various heat treatment techniques, tailored to the unique properties of different steels.

By the end of the course, you will have forged a tomahawk, hatchet, and axe, applying traditional methods and developing essential blacksmithing skills.

Please bring CSA approved steel-toed footwear, CSA approved clear safety glasses, earplugs or muffs and welding gloves (loose fitting, gauntlet style). Students require natural fibre clothing that covers arms and legs. A low cost leather apron is recommended.
