Course Overview

This professional development course is for people already working as Medical Laboratory Assistants. This course enhances the knowledge that the learner has gained in their work experience, provides a review of previously studied concepts, and adds new supplementary learning objectives.

For laboratory assistants with practical experience gained on the job, this course provides the theoretical and technical information you need to be successful in your role. In this course you will improve your knowledge in the following areas: Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, workplace safety, clerical duties, professional practices, and laboratory related calculations.

This is a self-directed, independent study course completed at your own pace. To enroll, you must be a current practicing MLA, MLT or CLXT.

  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
