Delivery Options
NAIT's convenient online study Power Engineering Computer Managed Learning (CML) modules let students work at their own pace to grow their employability and career potential. With instructor support as you need it, you may take from six months up to one year to complete the material depending on the class level.
Students also have the option to attend Power Engineering Technology Evening/Weekend courses to prepare for the provincial certification exams for Fifth Class and Fourth Class. Following a step-by-step process, NAIT students prepare to challenge the exam for each course. Whether you are looking to upgrade your skills or grab that big promotion, NAIT's courses give you the power to get the job done. Power Engineering classes traditionally fill quickly. Students are advised to register as soon as possible.
Entrance Requirements
There are no firm entry requirements, however it is strongly recommended to have a minimum of 50% in Grade 10 English, Math and Science for Fifth Class, Fourth Class, and Third Class courses. Related work experience may be considered in place of some academic subjects.

Power Engineers operate and maintain the equipment and machinery that provide power, heat, refrigeration and other industrial services, including boilers, steam and gas turbines, generators, gas and diesel engines, pumps, condensers, compressors and pressure vessels. Power Engineering Computer Managed Learning Courses
The CML modules let students work at their own pace to grow their employability and career potential. As students work through the Power Engineering Learning Materials, they test their knowledge of each module by completing a knowledge check. Students have six to twelve months to complete depending on the course.
Once students complete a certain number of quizzes, they must write a supervised exam. Exams may be written at NAIT. Students outside the Greater Edmonton Area may write their exams at a suitable remote location under an approved supervisor.
Students must purchase textbooks for the Power Engineering - Distancing Learning courses.
Online Requirements
You will be using Moodle for CML courses. Moodle was designed for use with Windows and Internet Explorer on a PC newer than 10 years old, but will work with a Mac; however, if any issues come up while using a Mac, there is no support for it.
Students will also need a printer to print out knowledge checks.

New Students to Power Engineering
Please note: The most recent re-organization of the fourth class Power Engineer's Syllabus as recommended by Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee (SOPEEC) was approved by the Association of Chief Inspectors (ACI), effective November 1, 2017. To align with this updated syllabus, students are required to purchase PanGlobal textbooks in version 3.0 or newer. Version 2.5 textbooks (or older) are no longer compatible.

Power Engineering Evening and Weekend Courses
Part-time Evening and Weekend Power Engineering courses offer a flexible and accessible alternative to full-time studies for students interested in enhancing their skills while maintaining a busy lifestyle.
Courses are offered on campus at NAIT, where students will receive face-to-face instruction from highly qualified and experienced Power Engineering instructors.
Courses are offered at the 5th and 4th class levels.
