All spring and fall courses continue to be delivered daily as scheduled through virtual live lectures. Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes virtually. Additional details can be found in the "About the Program" tab.

NAIT’s Academic Upgrading program is a bridging program designed for adults from a variety of academic backgrounds to gain prerequisite entrance requirements needed for post-secondary study. We offer flexible programming to help you gain the entrance requirements for post-secondary programs.

Upon successful completion of our Academic Upgrading program, you will be eligible for conditional acceptance into NAIT credit programs, pending successful completion of all other entrance requirements.

Semesters are 12-15 weeks in length with day, evening and online options available so you can work around your personal and professional commitments. Small class sizes and instructor-led training make for an ideal learning environment.

How does Academic Upgrading work?

All Winter and Spring 2021 upgrading courses and labs will be scheduled fully virtually.

The Academic Upgrading program offers flexible options that will help you gain  entrance requirements for your post-secondary program.

Academic upgrading placement tests for select subjects are available if you need to:

  1. Need to prove the grade 10 English entrance requirement for the Academic Upgrading Program.
  2. Need to prove a passing mark (50% or higher) in an upgrading prerequisite course.
  3. Need to satisfy an entrance requirement for one of the 5 NAIT career programs listed on the Academic Upgrading Placement Test webpage.

The Academic Upgrading courses do not fulfill any GED requirements or updates to an Alberta High School transcript, as the marks are not reported to the Alberta Ministry of Education.

  • All upgrading courses follow a regularly scheduled block timetable throughout the week based on Alberta time zone. Students are not permitted to take classes offered in the same time block due to virtual live instructor-led lessons.
  • Technology will be used to enhance and support students’ learning experience, and each course will have a recommended minimum technology standard (microphone, speaker and webcam).
  • NAIT uses many different platforms to support virtual learning such as Moodle, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx to name a few. Your instructor will choose the platform that is best suited to the learning required.
  • Spring 2021 – The condensed 12-week spring term will host select subjects throughout the day from May 3 to July 23, 2021
    • All courses and labs will continue to be delivered daily (Monday to Friday) with virtual live lectures as scheduled under the “Course” tab on this webpage.
  • Fall 2021 - The full 15-week fall term will continue to be delivered virtual with daily live lectures or labs as scheduled from September 7 to December 17, 2021, and there is no requirement to be on campus.
  • Winter 2022 – The 15-week winter term delivery has not been finalized, but likely will continue to be delivered virtually where possible with day and evening options.

Important information:

Please take note of the following:

  • Although the Academic Upgrading courses are listed as 5 credits/course, tuition fees are charged on a 3 credit fee model

Academic Upgrading Placement Test

A placement test can help you fulfill or prove entrance requirements for admission into Academic Upgrading courses.

“I was a student in the Math 30-2 asynchronous course. The instructor was very accessible, professional, and helpful throughout the course. As a full-time working mother with two toddlers, this course gave me the freedom of completing it anytime and anywhere.

I was afraid in the beginning that the video presentations would be hard to understand, so I even talked to a tutor to get help. I soon learnt, I had to cancel the tutor, because the videos were very clear and understandable.

I have already recommended it to a couple of my friends.”
