Our commitment to student success as NAIT transforms

 Dear students,

Three weeks ago, I wrote you a letter to let you know we would continue to meet our promise to students in the face of NAIT’s budget pressures. While all of our lives have changed an incredible amount since then, my message remains true. We are unwavering in our commitment to provide you with the high-quality, career-focused polytechnic education you came to NAIT for.

Earlier today, NAIT’s Board of Governors voted to approve our plans to transform NAIT. This means we will move forward with changes that will allow NAIT to be a sustainable, world-leading polytechnic long into the future. These changes are even more necessary as we adapt to new financial pressures brought about by COVID-19 in addition to the reality of reduced government funding for post-secondary education in Alberta.

You may hear about these changes in the coming days, including how we are losing staff members who have contributed to NAIT’s success. Please know these were difficult decisions and this is a hard time for everyone at NAIT.

Throughout any changes ahead, please know your success is paramount to us. It has been top-of-mind with every decision we have made. We have worked hard to ensure we can continue to offer high quality education as we transform how we operate. We will continue to support you and we strive to provide an exceptional student experience. We are committed to communicating with you as we work to transform NAIT.

I want to express my sincere appreciation for NAITSA, NAIT’s student association. These professional, caring and principled student leaders have been representing the needs of students as we respond and adapt to difficult circumstances.

And finally, thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. I want you to know we are open for business and will continue to meet your needs with our unique polytechnic education. Our intention is to learn from and build upon the innovations that have emerged as we have quickly adapted to teaching NAIT courses at a distance. As we contemplate the future of education at NAIT, we remain committed to providing you with hands-on, technology-based learning that meets industry needs and sets you up for career success.

Take care of yourself and those around you and best wishes for the remainder of your studies. Thank you, truly, for choosing NAIT.

Sincerely,

Sue Fitzsimmons, Ph.D.

Vice-President Academic and Provost
