Course Overview
Before you build, have a plan. You have been asked to build a full-fledged operational Geographic Information System (GIS) database but are not sure where to start. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to implement the best practices needed to construct and implement a GIS database.
As a graduate of this course you will be able to describe best practices for building a GIS database: from strategic vision, to user needs analysis, to database design and pilot project, all the way to the database implementation itself. You will also be able to describe logical database modeling, cost/benefit analysis and risk analysis: all towards establishing a sound GIS database.
Upon successful completion of this course you will also be able to describe project management processes from initiating a project, to planning, executing, monitoring, and finally closing a project.
