Course Overview
Prepare to become an ITLS advanced instructor by studying the principles of adult education. Concepts covered by this course include the facilitation of different learning styles, learning environments, delivery methods and communication styles. To participate, you must successfully complete an ITLS basic or advanced provider course, demonstrate instructor potential and meet local chapter requirements. Applications for the ITLS Instructor course are available by contacting continuingeducation@nait.ca. Along with your application a plan to teach and maintain competence should accompany your application.
With the insight gained in this course, you will have the skills to educate aspiring first responders on the advanced concepts of International Trauma Life Support.
Prerequisites:
- Currently a healthcare provider including first responder, EMR, EMT, EMT-P, RN, Physician or other allied health professional.
- Obtain minimum grading in an ITLS provider course (86% or higher on the written exam and receive an “excellent” on the Patient Assessment Practical Exam). At the start of your provider course please indicate your desire to be considered as an instructor candidate.
- Once you are accepted, you are required to complete an ITLS module through iTrauma before attending the course.
The International Trauma Life Support for Emergency Care Providers Current edition textbook is required for the ITLS Basic Instructor course. If you currently do not have this textbook, you can purchase it at Shop at NAIT.
