Our Structured Part-Time Pathways model allows busy professionals to work during the day while they pursue a diploma education in the evening. It can also give parents added flexibility to provide care for their children.

Thanks to a set schedule of 2-3 courses a term, our students study with the confidence of knowing they’ll acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the workforce, and graduate as quickly as possible. While intensive, this schedule is designed to allow students to fully absorb the information and balance coursework with everyday life.

All of our courses are taught by architectural technology experts with industry experience in the real world who take pride in the quality education NAIT provides, and the success of their students.

Credential: Diploma

Diplomas are credit programs that take 2 to 3 years and lead to government approved and industry-recognized credentials.

Campus: Main

Any in-person components of your courses will be delivered at NAIT's Main Campus in Edmonton. View map

Delivery Options:

  • On-Campus Evening and/or Weekend - Your course activity is done in-person on weekdays in the evening, or Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Online Evening and/or Weekend - Your course activity is done online on weekdays in the evening, or Saturdays and Sundays.

Open Studies: Available

This program has courses that are available for Open Studies. Open Studies allows you to explore credit courses without applying to a program. It is an opportunity to get a feel for school and what program you want to be in. View courses

Hands-on, industry-relevant skills

Throughout the program, you will study theoretical concepts and learn how to:

  • Create and coordinate a full set of working drawings to industry standards
  • Participate in all aspects of the design process, including the presentation of design solutions
  • Research and apply various codes, standards and systems used in design and construction
  • Visualize and communicate design in both 2 and 3 dimensions
  • Use current architectural tools and software common
  • Contribute individually and as part of a team in a professional architectural environment

Architectural technologists must possess superior presentation and communication skills in order to present drawings and plans to clients, workers and management teams. Throughout the program, you will develop your word processing, visual presentation and business communication skills.

Work experience

First-year students participate in a work experience with Habitat for Humanity. This hands-on learning component gives students exposure to a construction site and the chance to put theory into action, while also helping the community.

Second-year students with good academic standing are placed in architectural design offices for a 1 week period to receive mentorship in the professional work environment.

Structured Part-Time Pathways

Work or care for your family during the day, and pursue a diploma education in the evening, on weekends, or around your unique work schedule.

NOTE: Be sure to select the "Structured Part-Time Pathways" option when you apply with Apply Alberta.

All Structured Part-Time Pathway courses offered for Architectural Technology take place in the evening between the hours of 6 – 10 p.m. You can expect to spend between 13.5 – 16 hours a week in the classroom each term.

Courses and Advanced Credit

Advanced Credit

You may apply for advanced credit once you have been accepted into the program. Advanced credit can be Transfer Credit (for completed post-secondary courses) or PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition).

Transfer Credit

In addition to the common guidelines outlined on the Transfer and Credit Options section, your program has other advanced credit requirements that are applied to each request including:

  • You must have completed the course or program no more than 7 year(s) ago unless a formalized articulation agreement is in place
  • You must have a minimum mark of C in the course(s) or program

Prior Learning and Assessment Recognition (PLAR)
