Enter the workforce with confidence
Graduates are in strong demand and are compensated well. Captioning and court reporting has had an extremely high graduate placement rate since program inception. Thanks to the increased demand for captioning in digital media, these rates are expected to increase.
NAIT graduates are employed locally, across Canada and internationally. It is often possible to work from home.
Most graduates work as independent contractors, with some hired as employees. Graduates can find employment with the following job titles:
- Court reporter - writing court trials, questions on discovery, and quasi-judicial hearings
- CART provider - writing realtime in educational, corporate or community settings
- Broadcast captioner - writing live television events and internet programming
- Court reporting firms
- Broadcast captioning firms
- Post-secondary institutions
- Provincial and federal government
Information for international students
Some NAIT programs are unavailable to international students because they do not meet eligibility for a study permit or Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
This program is delivered in a different format for the Winter term than it is delivered in the Fall term.
Fall (September) terms
Study Permit: The fall intake programming is delivered in a way that meets the criteria for a study permit.
Post-Graduation Work Permit: Graduates of the fall intake program may qualify for a PGWP so long as they maintain their personal eligibility.
Winter (January) terms
Study Permit: The winter intake programming is delivered through distance learning and therefore does not meet the criteria for a study permit.
Post-Graduation Work Permit: The winter intake programming is delivered through distance learning and therefore this intake is not eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program. Completion of this program through distance learning will not make you eligible for a PGWP.
International applicants seeking permissions to take this program in the Winter term can contact a NAIT Academic Advisor – International to discuss options.
