About the Program
Please note: given that this program is less than 8 months in length, international students who graduate from this program are not eligible for the post-graduation work permit. For further details, please review Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada’s post-graduation work permit criteria.
Students in the Pre-employment Auto Body Repair program will receive all the technical training normally obtained in the first period of a traditional apprenticeship program, including
- industry overview and regulations
- component removal and installation
- substrate preparations including body fillers
- basic MIG welding
- hand-skills and basic sheet metal repair
- vehicle detailing
NAIT's Auto Body program is the largest provider of auto body training for apprentices and non-apprentices in Alberta. NAIT provides technical training to meet Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's (AIT) instructional requirements.

- Grade 10 English, Math and Science
- Grade 10 Math acceptable: 10, 13, 24, Applied, Pure, 10C, 10-3
- 24 levels acceptable for Science (does not include 14-levels)

Students are required to have the following personal protective equipment (PPE) for the first day of classes:
- Safety boots
- Safety glasses
Students will complete a 4-week practicum at an auto body repair shop. Practicum partners are not required to pay students for work completed during the practicum.
Students from out of town may obtain a practicum in their home location. In these circumstances, the practicum must be mutually arranged between the student, NAIT staff and a practicum partner. Any relocation expenses incurred to establish a remote practicum are the responsibility of the student.
