About the Program

The Construction Engineering Technology Program provides students with a broad knowledge of the management, estimating and technical aspects of construction, with a primary focus on commercial and residential buildings and related support industries.

Skills are taught in an environment that allows the student to develop communication skills and attitudes compatible to success as a construction engineering technologist.

Advanced Credit

You may apply for advanced credit once you have been accepted into the program. Advanced Credit can be Transfer Credit (for completed post-secondary courses), Credential Recognition (for completed certificates, diplomas or degrees) or PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition).

Transfer Credit & Credential Recognition: In addition to the common guidelines outlined on the Recognition of Prior Learning website and on the Request for Transfer Credit or Credential Recognition form (pdf), your program has other advanced credit requirements that are applied to each request including:

  • You must have completed the course or program no more than year(s) ago unless a formalized articulation agreement is in place
  • You must have a minimum mark of in the course(s) or program

If you do not qualify for transfer credit or credential recognition, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) may be an option.

Accreditation & Industry Certification

The Construction Engineering Technology program offers 25 credits towards the Canadian Construction Association Gold Seal certification.   The following Construction Engineering Technology individual courses have been accredited by the Gold Seal Accreditation Board:

The Construction Engineering Technology program is accredited under the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

It is also provincially accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB). Graduates may also apply for individual professional certification through the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).

All Weather Windows Entrance Scholarships 1200.00 1

Available to students entering a program related to building construction and the building construction business. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence in high school or upgrading courses; financial need; and demonstrated leadership qualities and school or community involvement.

Bob and Wendy Hiew Bursary 2000.00 1

Bob and Wendy Hiew are both NAIT graduates from the Electrical Engineering and Accounting programs. Bob and Wendy have established this bursary in order to support students who are experiencing financial difficulties so they can devote their time to their studies in order to embark on a good career. Available to a second year student enrolled in any full time credit program in either the JR Shaw School of Business, or the School of Applied Sciences and Technology at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and a minimum academic achievement of 75% in the first year of their program at NAIT.

BOMA Edmonton Construction Engineering Technology Scholarship 1250.00 1

Available to students enrolled in their final year of the Construction Engineering Technology program at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of high academic achievement in the previous semester and demonstrated leadership skills.

Construction Specifications Canada – Edmonton Chapter Bursary in Memory of Stephanie Wertz 1500.00 1

Available to students enrolled in the final semester of the Architectural Technology, Building Environment Systems Technology, Construction Engineering Technology or Interior Design Technology program at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of satisfactory academic achievement, demonstrated financial need and an essay outlining the student’s career and professional development aspirations.

Available to a student completing their first semester in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology program. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement in their first semester.

Available to a first year student enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technology program at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of a minimum A-grade in CSTN1111 and CSTN1210. Available to both second year and graduating students of the Construction Engineering Technology program. Award winners will be chosen jointly by students and instructors. Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, attitude, performance and adaptability.

Fillmore Construction Leadership Award I 3000.00 1

Fillmore Construction is a family owned general contractor based our of Edmonton. Fillmore Construction has developed a long lasting and valuable relationship with NAIT staff and alumni. Fillmore Construction employs numerous project managers and project coordinators who have graduated from the NAIT CET program. They believe strongly that through providing educational support to students it will help facilitate success in students, success in our local economy and the sustainability in the construction industry.Available to students entering the first year of the Construction Engineering Technology program at NAIT. The selected recipient may receive an additional $3,000 upon successfully entering year two of the program. The student must maintain an average of 75% to receive the scholarship in the second year of the program.

Available to Petroleum and Industry Related programs of NAIT including: Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geological, Geomatics, Instrumentation, and Petroleum Engineering. Applicants must be enrolled in their 3rd semester of the program. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

International Applied Sciences Scholarship 2500.00 1

Available to International students enrolled in the first, second, third, or fourth year of a credit program in the School of Applied Sciences and Technology at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of highest academic achievement in the previous semester.

Lafarge - James Ayres Memorial Award 1500.00 2

James Ayres began life well-travelled, as his family moved first from an army base in Germany, to Scotland, Channel Islands, Montreal, and small towns in Ontario. James developed his own sense of the value of a good education, and strived hard to enter University. James would think of his university years as his most successful, having been challenged to think creatively, work as a team, give back to the community, and broaden his social activities. James parted university with two degrees and an internship, and moved west for new adventures. As an instructor he challenged his students regularly but always brought humour and personal experience into the classroom. Sadly, James left us in March 2011. He was a special man, with amazing gifts of friendship and caring, always cheerful and communicative, and to the last, thinking of new ways to do old things. Available to second year students in the Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, and Engineering Design and Drafting Technology programs at NAIT. Awarded to a student in good standing whose personality, experience and skills support the characteristics engendered by James, including: leadership, passion, community involvement, perseverance, creativity, and humour. Applicants must include an essay, no more than two pages, outlining how they demonstrate the characteristics engendered by James. Applicants are also asked to outline their favourite course within the program, as well as their experience at National Precast Day.

Available to a first year student enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technology program. The award is based on first semester marks and will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory academic achievement and financial need.

PCL Century of Construction Excellence Awards - CON 2000.00 2

PCL Constructors Inc. has been supporting NAIT students with scholarships for over 20 years, and has employed thousands of NAIT students and graduates. PCL has established this award to recognize students for their academic dedication and leadership achievements. Available to second year students enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technology program. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, and a two-page essay explaining why the Construction Engineering Program is beneficial to graduates working in the home building industry.

The Casman Group - Best Team Tender Close Project - Spring 2000.00 1

Available to second year students enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technology program at NAIT. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement in CSTN2470, Estimating III: Indirect and Conceptual Costs. The value of the scholarship is to be split evenly between team members.

The Casman Group Construction Engineering Technology Scholarship – Year 1 Spring 1000.00 1

Available to full-time students entering the Construction Engineering Technology program. Awarded on the basis of good academic standing in the final year of high school or upgrading courses.
