Occupational Health and Safety

Each year, over 10,000 employees are injured at work in Alberta. Some suffer serious injuries or even fatalities. As a result, organizations across the province are investing more time and resources into better training and equipping their personnel, identifying potential hazards, and developing strategies and policies to ensure employee safety.

The NAIT Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) diploma program is designed to prepare you for key health and safety roles in industry, addressing the growing demands of government regulations. You’ll develop expertise in areas such as disability management, investigations, risk management, communication and ethical decision-making. 

Our two-year program focuses on real-world issues and practical skills and is the only program in the province that offers full-time OHS training. We are recognized by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, and our graduates meet the educational requirements for Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification — the most recognized designation for safety professionals in Canada. 

Throughout the program, you’ll gain classroom and lab instruction, along with applied learning opportunities in various workplace settings across five terms.

Upon graduation, you'll have opportunities in sectors such as oil and gas, water, government agencies, municipalities, healthcare, and beyond.
