Powerline technicians construct, maintain and repair overhead and underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems. They also diagnose and solve problems like power disturbances or storm damage.
Since reliable electricity is one of the pillars of modern society, their work supports the entire economy. They power new communities and growing municipalities. Powerline techs usually work for utility companies and their contractors.
This program has trained powerline techs since the 1970s. It will equip you with all of the skills, qualifications and connections you need to work as a journeyperson powerline technician. You’ll learn from our dedicated and experienced instructors in labs carefully designed to recreate real-world working conditions.
We'll guide you through the steps to apply on Tradesecrets. Apprenticeship intakes can fill quickly, so apply early to secure your spot and get started.

At NAIT, we honour and acknowledge that the land on which we learn, work and live is Treaty Six territory. We seek to learn from history and the lessons that have come before us, and to draw on the wisdom of the First Peoples in Canada. Only through learning can we move forward in truth and reconciliation, and to a better future together. Read more
