About the program

Power engineers keep buildings warm, facilities running, and industries moving. They operate and maintain critical systems like boilers, turbines, and pressure vessels that power everything from hospitals and schools to oil refineries and manufacturing plants. With energy systems at the heart of our economy, these professionals play a vital role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability in a range of industrial environments.

In just 1 year, you’ll gain hands-on experience operating low- and high-pressure boilers, pumps, compressors, turbines, and water treatment systems. You'll also develop a strong foundation in workplace safety, electricity, instrumentation, and the principles behind heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

You’ll build technical expertise aligned with Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards, preparing you to challenge the 4th Class Power Engineering certification exams. This industry-recognized credential is your first step toward a career in power engineering and can lead to further certification at higher class levels.

Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in hospitals, manufacturing facilities, energy plants, commercial buildings and more.
