NAIT is Canada’s leading apprenticeship trainer. More than half of all apprentices in Alberta, and 17 per cent in all of Canada, are trained here. NAIT’s focus on hands-on training and our commitment to keeping up to date with the trends of industry ensure that we are in the forefront of trades training world wide.
Apprenticeship is a method of gaining the expertise needed to become a skilled tradesperson. This is done through a combination of on-the-job and classroom training. Typically, apprentices train for four years (although this varies depending on the trade), spending four to twelve weeks a year in an educational institution and the rest of the time training on the job.
If you're interested in getting into the trades, NAIT offers programs that help students gain practical knowledge in a chosen trade to gain entry-level job skills or become hired as an apprentice. These short-term "pre-trades" or "pre-employment" programs cover a wide range of skilled trades.
