Ironworker Apprenticeship

Ironworkers build things out of iron and steel. They fabricate and construct structural steel buildings and ornamental ironworks. They erect freecast panels and install reinforcing steel in concrete structures. Their work supports major economic drivers in Alberta like commercial and institutional construction and the energy sector. 

There are three streams to this apprenticeship program. The metal building systems and reinforcing streams are two years long, while the structural/ornamental program is three years. 

Whatever stream you choose, you’ll learn through a mix of paid on-the-job training and technical instruction at NAIT. Your time on campus will be spent with our experienced and dedicated teachers, working in shops carefully designed to recreate real-world working conditions.
