(Edmonton) NAIT’s 57th Convocation celebration marks an important milestone for 12,196 graduating students who’ve displayed incredible perseverance in extraordinary times.
The Classes of 2020 and 2021 faced new challenges and experiences when the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way education was delivered at NAIT, first pivoting to fully online and later to a blended format for learning outcomes that could not be met virtually. Despite all the changes, NAIT students remained resilient, and are leaving the polytechnic with unique skills that allowed them to face each challenge with energy and creativity throughout the pandemic.
On Saturday, June 5, 2021, NAIT will celebrate graduates from the four schools – School of Health and Life Sciences, JR Shaw School of Business, School of Skilled Trades, and School of Applied Sciences and Technology – in separate virtual ceremonies. The 5,733 graduates from the class of 2020 will be acknowledged along with the 6,463 graduates from the class of 2021 due to convocation being postponed last year.
Each ceremony will include elements of a traditional in-person event including a ceremonial blessing by NAIT Elder Verna Orr and an honour song by the respected Oskapewis (helper) Lonny Potts. The ceremonies will also include a special presentation of the 2021 honorary degree recipients.
