NAIT marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with flag lowering ceremony

In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, NAIT will hold a flag lowering ceremony to honour the legacy of residential school survivors and remember the children who never returned home. A moment of silence will follow, offering space for reflection and remembrance. 

The ceremony will be held at NAIT’s Flagpole Plaza and includes: 

  • land acknowledgement 
  • cultural drumming 
  • speeches 
  • flag lowering 
  • moment of silence

WHEN:      Monday, September 29, 2025
TIME:         9:25 – 10:05 a.m. 
WHERE:     Flagpole Plaza on NAIT’s Main Campus (11762 106 Street, Edmonton, AB) 
                    The flagpole plaza is located at the corner of Princess Elizabeth Avenue and 106 Street 

The ceremony is part of a series of events at NAIT to showcase the polytechnic’s ongoing commitment to truth, reconciliation, and fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for staff, students and the broader community. Staff and students can also drop-in to the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre for smuding. Additionally, ShopAtNAIT will be selling orange shirts, with proceeds benefiting the Orange Shirt Society.  

NAIT will be closed on Tuesday, September 30th in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
