This development enables the NAIT community to move forward without job action

(Edmonton, AB) - NAIT is pleased to announce that the polytechnic and the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA), the union that represents instructors and other academic staff, have reached a new tentative agreement.

The two parties have been bargaining since July 2024. If ratified, the four-year collective agreement covers July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028.

“This tentative agreement marks a significant milestone in the bargaining process and reflects the commitment of both parties to support academic staff, while ensuring NAIT continues to deliver the high‑quality polytechnic education students deserve”, said Laura Jo Gunter, President & CEO. “I’d like to thank both bargaining teams for the extensive discussions and collaboration in working through a range of complex issues. Their efforts made this achievement possible.”

The new tentative agreement provides a path forward grounded in stability and clarity for employees, students, and the wider NAIT community. It introduces enhancements that recognize staff contributions while also supporting the institution’s long‑term sustainability.

What this means for students

  • There will be no disruption to teaching or learning
  • Classes, labs, and academic services will continue as scheduled

Next steps

The tentative agreement will now move forward to ratification:

  • NASA members will be invited to vote in the coming weeks
  • NAIT’s Board of Governors will also vote on the agreement

Approval from both parties is required for the agreement to take effect.

Reaching this tentative agreement enables the NAIT community to move forward without job action and with a renewed focus on teaching, learning and supporting students now and into the future.
