Interior Design Technology

Interior Design Technologists play a key role in creating interior environments that enhance health, safety, well-being, and the human experience. Working alongside architects, interior designers, engineers, and contractors, they help transform design concepts into functional, sustainable, and code-compliant spaces through technical documentation, material selection, and project coordination. 

In NAIT's Interior Design Technology program, you will explore the relationship between interior architectural design, people, and the built environment. Coursework focuses on space planning, building systems, construction methods, materials, accessibility, and building codes. 

Students will develop the technical skills needed to translate design concepts into detailed construction drawings, specifications, and digital models. Using industry-standard drafting and modeling software, you will learn how to communicate design intent to support the development and delivery of interior architectural projects. You will gain practical experience contributing to the design of residential, commercial, institutional, and public spaces. 

Graduates are prepared for diverse career opportunities with architectural and interior design firms, construction companies, public-sector organizations, home builders, and manufacturers contributing to the creation of functional, sustainable, and inspiring built environments.
